2D Week 14: Group Project Final Round - Team Tinman

2D Week 14: Group Project Final Round - Team Tinman

So for this week I was assigned to finish the house and it was a harder task than I would have thought because I was basically building the house brick by brick and then still had to make it a Tim Burton Style, but I feel like it turned out nicely. Images below.

2D Week 13: Group Project Concept Round (Final Color) - Team Tinman

2D Week 13: Group Project Concept Round (Final Color) - Team Tinman

This week I cleaned up the tree face to be better looking after talking over with Will. He gave me some concept images to go off of to make the face tree look even better. I was also tasked with cleaning up the house and making it out of planks and I am still working on that task, but will post screenshots of the progress so far. For the face tree I went into Zbrush and sculpted out somemore limbs facing in different directions and also sculpted the face more and overall I think it looks way better than prior weeks. For the house I started making individual planks for the house and then started adding shingles. I also added a heart shape to the roof of the house.

This is the face tree that I did, but we ended up changing it later on to look way better.

This is the updated face tree after I got somemore sketches from Will which really improved the tree all together. Shout out to Will for the awesome draw overs!!

Here are some screenshots of the house right now. Just a few minor changes to it, but it will get finished.

2D Week 13: Group Project Concept Round (Value Pass 02)

2D Week 13: Group Project Concept Round (Value Pass 02) - Team Tinman

For this week I did a bunch of improvements from Nicks critiques last week. I was told to make the nose more defined on the tree, so I took the mesh into Zbrush and sculpted out a better nose for the tree. Also, my team wanted me to make some more roots for the tree so I added more of those also. I also added arms to the tree for Boo because she wanted some arms to do a cool animation for them sometime in the future. I was also told to clean up my house geometry which I did and it looks a lot better now, but there are still some things I need to fix on it. I was tasked with making the roof darker than the bottom of the house, so I took the house into maya and added another material set to just the roof so that it could be darker than the bottom of the house. Shout out to Leah for making the materials darker in engine. I also moved the windows down on the house becuase previously they were to high up on the house. I also made the pipe on the house bigger and gave it a more Tim Burton like style to it along with the oil can. Things that I didn't get to yet were adding shutter window things to the windows, adding a different material to the door of the house, and adding a heart shape to the top of the roof of the house, but I will definitely have those done for next week.

2D Class Week 12 Concept Round (Value Pass 01)

2D Class Week 12 Concept Round (Value Pass 01)

This week I was extremely busy with Rpp going on, but I started sculpting the tree and fixing up some of the things that Nick went over in class. I made the canopy bigger, got rid of hard edges and tried to define the face more in Zbrush. Also I made some roots coming out of the tree. I also gave my proxy house to Leah and she put it in engine.

2D Class Week 11 Concept Round 01 (Thumbnails)

2D Class Week 11 Concept Round 01 (Thumbnails)

This week I was assigned to make a few props for our game. I was tasked with making a house, oil can, basket, and updating my tree with more geometry.

This was the house I made on friday that I was concepting in 3D. I then brought it into Zbrush to sculpt on and messed with its shape to give it a more Tim Burton feel to it. I then passed these images off to Leah and she did some draw overs of them and they turned out really good.

This is the basket I ended up making for our Tinman level. It was made after Sallys basket from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Next I modeled the oil can for the Tinman because we needed an oil can that the player can interact with.

After making the oil can I went back and added more geometry to the face of the tree and got rid of some n-gons that I hadn't realized were there. I also looked up how cards work for trees and there were many different ways it can be done so I just added a few cards right now before proceeding on with it.

3D Class Week 10 Concept Discovery With 3D

3D Class Week 10 Concept Discovery With 3D

This week I was tasked with redoing the tree for the tinman level. We moved the face up and made it bigger so that it looks like the player is looking up at the tree instead of level with it. Everyone voted on which tree design they liked the most from what Will drew up and everyone decided on Wills face 2 tree. I took his image and set that up in maya so that I could start modeling the tree. I started out with a cylinder for the base of the tree and then did a whole bunch of polygon create tool for all of the branches and it turned out pretty good. Once I finished the tree I then did a toon shader on it with some toon outlines. I also updated my old layout pages with the new Template that Will provided. Images below.

2D Class Week 09 Shape Language

2D Class Week 09 Shape Language

This week we focused on shape language and different shapes of characters. I was tasked this week with making the proxy shapes for the character. Will made some awesome silhouettes for me to go off of and our team decided that I should make the 7th image on the silhouette. I started out making that silhouette while also looking at our pinterest and other reference images to go off of. After making the proxy shape character, it was decided that my model wasn't Tim Burton enough and so then we went back to the drawing board and refined what we wanted to do and came out with a better vision for the Tinman. This proxy was drawn over by Will and Leah and then Boo ended up making the newer proxy. Images bellow.

First thing to do was to set up a since of scale for our Tinman.

Setting up reference planes for the block out of this character.
